Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this designed for?

This toolkit was designed for professors teaching upper-level undergraduate students, but can be modified for any level beyond undergraduates, or by independent learners.

Can students do this without a project?

Yes. For activities that reference personal projects, students that do not have one may choose a topic or problem from the Problem Bank

Will it work to use just one lesson, one module, or one resource?

These modules are entirely open access and modular. You may, of course, use them out of order or use the lessons one at a time. However, some lessons do build upon one another, and therefore, may be best taught consecutively.

Do I need to do the modules or lessons in any particular order?

We highly recommend starting with the Introduction Module. After that, it is up to you, although the most ideal format for those completing all the Toolkit modules would be: Introduction, Designing Environmental Solutions, Technology for Environmental Impact, Business for a Sustainable Future.

How long would each of the lessons take?

Ultimately, the instructor will choose the length of the lessons, by determining the depth of discussion and time allocated to the activities. As a rough guideline, each lesson is designed to cover 1-4 hours of class time, and the ‘Explore More’ resources after the lessons include resources to go deeper into the lesson content if desired.  If you are an independent learner, take as long or as short a time as you’d like!

Can I use this material? Can I edit it?

See our Rights and Permissions here. We include downloadable / editable files because we want you to be able to modify it.

Can I point students directly to this website?

Yes. Do note that in some places, there is content that is addressed to educators which you may not want students to see (e.g. quiz answers, or case study teaching notes).

Will I get a certificate upon completion?

Conservation X Labs does not supply Conservation Futures Toolkit users with a certificate upon completion, or any indication of completion, but we do love to hear from you and your journey in the conservation innovation space.

Will I be graded? If so, how?

There is no established grading rubric for these lessons because it may be taught to students at varying levels of academia.
